There is a difference between the two types of gifting structures. 1up is where after you join and had given your gift to your inviter [the inviter is the person who referred you. The person you signed up under], you don't start receiving gifts until a second person joins under you. The first person that joins under you, you don't get that gift. That gift goes to your inviter. That's how the 1up structure works.

The Residual structure is where you and the inviter get a gift. You get most of the gift amount. You qualify for the residual structure right after you had given a gift to your inviter. I hope this explains the differences in the gifting structures. Don't forget to read "Do received gifts have to be equal to what I originally gifted?" article, as that's the most exciting thing about the Abundant Living System.
